In February 1980, office personnel employed by Cincinnati Public Schools voted to affiliate with the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers. By this action, the Association of Cincinnati Public Schools Office Personnel (ACPSOP) union was formed and recognized by the Cincinnati Board of Education as the exclusive bargaining representative for all Civil Service clerical employees.

The formation of the ACPSOP chapter of CFT afforded members a full-time released field representative insuring office personnel individual representation on job related issues.
