Update on School Lead Issues

CPS is in the process of performing preventive treatment at 22 schools identified as having potential lead hazards. The scope of the work is being conducted in accordance with Ohio Substitute House Bill 248.
The 22 schools are: Hoffman, Kilgour, McKinley, Central Fairmount, Schiel, Clifton, Bond Hill, Fairview, Carson, Kirby Road, College Hill, Winton Montessori, Hyde Park, Linwood, Pleasant Ridge, East End Community, Windsor, Oyler, Westwood, Rothenberg, Mt. Washington, and Old Sands (to be used as ’Äúswing space’Äù).
Some of the work to be completed and cleared for examinations prior to school opening on August 21st include:

Removal of contents of rooms
- Removal of loose and deteriorated paint on exterior screens and exterior window surfaces
- Removal of loose and deteriorated paint on interior ceilings and radiator pipes
- Sealing of exterior security screens and window surfaces with approved encapsultant
- Re-painting interior surfaces that have had loose and deteriorated paint
- Painting all radiators and exposed heating pipes
- Specialized cleaning of all affected rooms, including cleaning and sealing of floors
- Cleaning all furniture before returning it to classrooms
- Vacuum of carpets with HEPA filtered and steam extraction systems
