The William P. Sheehan Scholarship –
Deadline Extended to May 28, 2008
The William P. Sheehan Scholarship is a program funded by a grant from KnowledgeWorks Foundation, in recognition of Sheehan’s significant contributions over many years to the community, to KnowledgeWorks Foundation and to its predecessor organization, Student Loan Funding Corporation, which he joined in 1981. Sheehan is a retired chairman of The Ohio State Employment Relations Board, a former executive secretary of the Cincinnati AFL-CIO labor Council and president of the Cincinnati Hotel Employees Council, and former chair of The Ohio State University Labor, Education and Research Service. He has also served on the boards of other area nonprofit groups, including the Cincinnati Civil Service Commission and Cincinnati chapter of the American Red Cross.
The intent of this scholarship is to provide students in Cincinnati Public Schools who otherwise might not be able to afford college the opportunity to continue their education. Scholarship funds will be awarded to graduating Cincinnati Public high school seniors who embody the qualities characteristic of Sheehan: courage, cooperation and perseverance in overcoming challenges.
Applicant qualifications for the William P. Sheehan scholarship include:
- Student must be the FIRST generation in their family to attend college;
- Economically disadvantaged (must provide a copy of Student Aid Report) and;
- Demonstrate Civic Involvement
