Calamity Days for Teachers:

The state legislatures changed the law from Calamity days to calamity hours, CPS has from 15-25 days worth of hours in our school calendar. The board, administrators and public would not support teachers being paid that many days while at home. The state used to limit the number of calamity to 5 then days had to be made up. That is no longer the case.
Teachers will not be expected to drive to school with unsafe snow conditions but if the roads are clear, then the district expects teachers to come to work like many other cps employee groups have been doing for years.
The state made this change to give districts flexibility with their calendar. There were some suggestions to cut the number of student days but since our salary is per diem we do not want to risk our salary being cut. Less days sound great but not if our salary is cut with it.
It will probably be similar to when we used to have no yellow bus days. Remember teachers had to go in (many days the roads were horrible) and we took turns with the kids so we could get other stuff done.
The same rules apply for sick leave as any other days.
Please call the CFT office if you have any questions.

Cincinnati Teachers and Office Staff Ratify New Contracts With Public Schools.....

CINCINNATI—The Cincinnati Federation of Teachers announced this evening that teachers and support staff voted to ratify new contracts with the Cincinnati Public Schools. The agreement with teachers includes a reduction in non-state mandated testing to increase instructional time for students, greater collaboration to meet the needs of students with disabilities, a salary increase to become more competitive with the other Hamilton County school districts so that we can recruit, retain and promote the very best teachers and a commitment to co-design a revamped teacher development and evaluation process..........

The contracts were ratified with record numbers: CFT passed with 95% of the votes and CFOP was passed with 97% of the votes. A formal signing of the new contracts will be scheduled during the next two weeks.
